Bipasha and Arshad ‘racially abused’ in UK

Basu and Arshad were absolutely shocked the way a group of white men roughed them near Glassy Junction, a popular Indian pub in Southall, West London, some months back. Both were verbally attacked by some white men. Both Bipasha and Arshad claimed that they were racially abused while shooting for their latest film ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’.

Just less than a year after Shilpa Shetty became the victim of racial slur in Britain. And the same thing happened once again .Even fellow actor John Abraham, who was also present at that time said “When you come into London and you are shooting, it’s the last thing you expect.”

Kareena comes home!

Kareena Kapoor is all set to feature in an RK banner film. After much deliberation the Kapoor brothers - Randhir, Rishi and Rajiv - are ready to work on a youthful breezy romantic comedy early next year. The script has been finalised and the screenplay is in its final stages. Confirming the news, papa Randhir Kapoor says, “I'm making a film with Kareena. It's going to be a youthful romantic film, and it should start in a few months from now.”

Ask him for details and he says, “We are going to make a formal announcement at the right time. All I can say is that the project featuring Bebo is underway.” We are no strangers to the fact that the Kapoor brothers have been working on scripts for the longest time. Their last production was Aa Ab Laut Chalen starring Akshaye Khanna and Aishwarya Rai, which had released in 1999.

Those in the know reveal that another film starring Ranbir Kapoor will hit the floors alongside. Randhir Kapoor says, “The Kapoor family is with Ranbir's debut. We are making a film with Ranbir too. Both the films are set to start at the same time next year.”

News has it that elder daughter Karishma Kapoor intends to make a comeback. The actress, who shuttles between Mumbai and Delhi, has been reading up scripts. However, papa Randhir rules out any such possibility. He says, “I don't think so.”

Meanwhile, he is delighted about Kareena's new pad at Bandra. Randhir has been equally involved in the buying process. “My daughters do seek my advice and I was there when Bebo was buying the place. I really like the new house,” he says.

Known for his funny-bone, papa Randhir came up with a unique nickname for Shahid (read 'Dodo') on Koffee with Karan. We urge him to make suggestions for Kareena's latest boyfriend Saif Ali Khan and he says, “It was something that came out on the spur of the moment and it was in good humour. I don't want to fall in this trap again.” We insist and he says, “I don't even know Saif Ali Khan.”

Nisha Kothari

'I am sexy, not vulga:-

New Bollywood hottie Nisha Kothari is all set to win hearts with her bindas portrayal of Ghungroo in Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag. She speaks to NT about her character, shedding clothes and romance.

After creating a sensation in Tollywood, sexy Nisha Kothari went ahead and became Ram Gopal Varma's favourite heroine, replacing the oomphy Urmila Matondkar. And now she is playing the new Basanti aka Ghungroo in Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, in which macho man Ajay Devgan stars opposite her.

Talking about the character of Ghungroo she says, "It's a very peppy character. She is a tapori who puffs beedi (hopelessly imitating her favourite actor Rajnikanth), drives an autorickshaw (called Laila) and looks after her parents. People are bound to compare this character with Basanti played by Hemaji in Sholay, but though both have the same flavour-- they are entirely different in attitude and have been treated differently. I am sure people will love me and my character."

Just a few flicks old, Nisha has had the opportunity to work with stars like Sushmita Sen, Ajay Devgan and Emraan Hashmi. She says, "There was a time when I would dream of working with these stars and today I am sharing the screen space with them. It is like a dream come true. The best part is that these senior actors make the newcomer feel so comfortable on the sets that you feel you have been working for ages with them."

Citing an example she says, "While shooting for this film, RGV suddenly asked me to puff beedi Rajnikanth style. Though I had practised the style quite a few times, I panicked and looked at Ajay Devgan. He realised that I was scared and quietly winked at me and smiled, which meant 'just do it'. The shot I gave then was perfect."

Ask her what all she does, when she is not working and pat comes the reply, "I either play video games, work out or catch up with my sleep. I don't party at all. I am a traditional person and like to maintain a low profile. I have a long way to go and I am concentrating only on my work."
But somehow this 'traditional' talk does not gel well with the speed with which she sheds clothes on screen and does passionate scenes with co-actors like Ajay Devgan. She calmly explains, "I have a beautiful body and can carry any outfit with grace. If I reveal or do intimate scenes that's only because I am convinced the role needs it. The director has to convince me that the scene is required and I know that I look sexy and not vulgar donning a short skirt or hot pants. Had I been doing anything unethical, my parents would have objected to it, instead they are quite supportive."

Not many know that the girl loves to dance. "You just have to put on the music and I can break into a jig. I love to dance and sometimes when I am feeling low, I put on soft music and dance," says she and signs off.

Bollywood Gossips

Aaja Nachle

Madhuri Dixit's comeback film, Aaja Nachle is already receiving excellent responses from Bollywood fans across the UK.

Trailers of the film currently being shown with big Bollywood blockbusters like Om Shanti Om and Saawariya has already drawn a lot of curiosity from cinema goers.

Audiences coming out of cinemas have also been seen gloating over the film's standee displays in cinema foyers whilst some have taken the liberty in taking pictures against Aaja Nachle cinema posters.

With Om Shanti Om hype dying down in the coming weeks, Dixit's Aaja Nachle (meaning come dancing) will once again revive Bollywood interest with audiences during the cold December month.

The film is being released in the UK cinemas by Yash Raj Films based in London on 30 November 2007.

Saawariya loses out to Om Shanti Om

One of Bollywood's most respected publicists, Dale Bhagwagar, predicted that Om Shanti Om will surpass all box office expectations over Saawariya.

Dale said, "I doubt if Saawariya can give competition to Om Shanti Om and hope it's not a case of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's over confidence versus Shah Rukh Khan's star power. Because such a game, if lost, can give a jolt to the industry,"

Dale had feared that such unjustified competition between a debutante and a megastar could result in mega-shocks.

Decidedly, Om Shanti Om is now a much stronger product, while Saawariya is already facing criticism on the directorial front, after its premiere last week in New York.

It can be noted here that Bhansali has always made films with very big stars. While Khamoshi starred Salman Khan and Manisha Koirala, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam had Salman, Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles.

Bhansali went one step ahead with Devdas with it's unusual casting coup with Shah Rukh Khan pairing up with Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya, while Black had the inimitable Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherji leading the cast.

This is the first time that Bhansali took up the mantle of being a star-maker, by launching new faces Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, along with Salman and Rani in special roles.

"If Saawariya was postponed for another week, it could have stood a better chance. I wonder why its makers couldn't see the crisis coming," said Dale.

He explained, "PRs build perceptions, but perception-building is not the only aspect required for a film. The hype for Saawarya has been tremendous, but it seems Sanjay Leela Bhansali not only over-rated his product but miscalculated its overall acceptance by the audience."

During its opening weekend, Om Shanti Om has shown collections reaching over £350,000 by entering the UK top 10 charts at number seven.
